The horned grebe is a diving bird that spends the breeding season mainly in Canada and Alaska. They have startling red eyes that are hard to miss and has dramatically different breeding and non-breeding plumage. It is only during its migration that it makes it way through New Hampshire. Because of this, most sightings in this area will be of the horned grebe in its more subdued, black and white colors.
