Another very common sight around the bird feeders growing up was the dark-eyed junco. Although not as striking as say the goldfinch or as popular as the black-capped chickadee, the dark-eyed junco was one that I learned to identify at a very young age. These little birds favor the ground and are more often than not seen foraging below a bird feeder than directly at the source.
