….a single little bird that zipped by us and landed on the fence to the vegetable garden. We were on the other side of the enclosure and its back was to us. I waited for a few moments, firing off a few shots when it turned its head to the side…

Eastern Phoebe

Birds of NH #: 4/278

Avg. Clutch Size: 2-6

Avg. Brood/s per year: 1-2

Here is one of those birds species that I would guarantee that I have seen hundreds of times but yet have never known its name. The eastern phoebe is a very common bird in New Hampshire and I am sure that I will be seeing plenty of it in the coming days.

A member of the flycatcher family, its diet is primarily insects, many of which are caught in midair. I would love to catch an action shot of one going in for a meal one day.
