…on my way out when a bright yellow bird flew towards me and landed nearby. It gave me a questioning look before it went about its business and started snagging seeds from its perch…

Prairie Warbler

Birds of NH #: 9/278

Avg. Clutch Size: 3-5

Avg. Brood/s per year: 1-2

I have come to realize since starting the Birds of New Hampshire challenge that I did not know a thing about warblers. It came as a bit of a surprise to me as there are several warbler species and they are a very common sight in much of the state. My only explanation would be that we never saw them in our backyard, hence my ignorance.

Since then, I have seen them frequently during my days out. In the fields, along wood lines and flying through neighborhoods. They bring a pop of color that is a welcome addition wherever they appear. The prairie warbler was the first warbler species that I photographed in this challenge.

It flew in close and proceeded to go about its business foraging for seeds. I was more than happy to snap off some shots over the next thirty seconds before it zipped away to a nearby bush to continue its search for food. If only every specie was so easy to photograph!
